MINUTES OF THE REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

 

The Regular Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Assiginack was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.

THAT the Regular Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Assiginack be opened for business at 7:00 pm, with a quorum of members present, with Mayor Reid presiding in the Chair. CARRIED

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Councillor Elliott shared with members of Council that the 1st Manitoulin Girl Guides are hosting their Earth Day Challenge, as well as Manitoulin Streams is hosting their Island Wide Garbage Cleanup for residents to take part in. He shared that the Fire Department will be cleaning up their regular stretch of road.

The Mayor reminded everyone to speak a little louder so the residents who are watching from home can hear everyone.

It was suggested that we look into investing in our audio/video equipment for livestreaming our meetings.

THAT we support the Town of NEMI’s resolution to advocate to the Provincial and Federal levels of government to make them aware that rural and small urban water and wastewater systems are financially unsustainable; and advocate to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association (ROMA), and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) to examine the affordability of water and wastewater system operational costs. CARRIED
