MINUTES OF THE REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

 

The Regular Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Assiginack was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

 

Present: Mayor Paul Moffatt, Councillor Robert Case, Councillor Hugh Moggy, Councillor Brenda Reid

Excused: Councillor Leslie Fields

Staff: Alton Hobbs, CAO, Ron Cooper, PW Superintendent, Jeremy Rody, Clerk, Jackie White, PEC

OPENING:

THAT the Regular Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Assiginack be opened for business with a quorum of members present at 7:00 p.m., with Mayor Moffatt presiding in the Chair.  CARRIED

THAT the agenda for this meeting be accepted as presented. CARRIED

ADOPTION OF MINUTES:

THAT the Minutes of the September 29th, 2015 Special Council meeting be accepted. CARRIED

THAT the Minutes of the June 29th, 2015 Assiginack Public Library Board be accepted. CARRIED

THAT the Minutes of the September 17th, 2015 Sudbury & District Board of Health meeting be received. CARRIED

 

DELEGATIONS:

THAT Council thank Mr. Bowerman and Mr. Mortimer for presenting Council with their concerns regarding the Rogers Creek Bridge.  CARRIED

THAT Council thank Cassandra Kuntsi for her presentation about her trip to Kenya with the “Me to We Program” as well as representing Manitoulin Island on an international stage.  CARRIED

 

REPORTS:

THAT Council accepts the staff report titled, “Assiginack Township Infrastructure Survey Results.”  CARRIED

 

ACTION REQUIRED ITEMS:

THAT Council authorizes the following Accounts for Payment:

General:           $260,242.27

AND THAT the Mayor and administration be authorized to complete cheques #24817 through #24828 and #24868 through #24886 as described in the attached cheque register reports. CARRIED

THAT we inform Manitoulin Streams that the Township will donate $5,000.00 to their organization in the form of waiving that amount of the 2016 office rent. CARRIED

ANNOUNCEMENTS & INQUIRIES:

Councillor Reid requested that she would like to have a preliminary 2016 budget meeting for the purpose of giving staff ample time to get quotes and pricing information.

The CAO announced that LAMBAC is now available to work with the Township on a Strategic Plan and asked Council about forming a Strategic Planning Committee.  An advertisement for Community Representatives to be appointed to this committee will be submitted to the Manitoulin Expositor.  This committee will be comprised of Council Members, Staff, and Community Representatives.

Councillor Moggy commented that the new highway signs look great and inquired about a sign at the North end of the Township on Highway 6.  The CAO responded that the MTO has not designated an open spot in the area where the boundary line is located.
